Privacy at HorrorBooks
Updated 16 October 2026. HorrorBooks, an independent publication at horrorbooks.co, publishes this policy.
Reading and searching
You can read the guides without an account. There are no contact forms, email subscriptions, reader profiles or advertising on this version of the site. The site search runs in your browser against the site's page information. It does not send your search words to a separate search provider.
The search box also has a normal form that can open /browse/?q= with your search words in the address, including when scripts are unavailable. That page request sends the address and its query to this site's host. Avoid entering private information in a search.
Requests made by this site
Your browser requests pages, images, local fonts and scripts from the site's own address. The consent script requests /api/geo to learn the country and region supplied by the hosting service. It uses that result to select consent controls. A visit also passes ordinary connection information, including an IP address and browser request details, to the host so it can deliver the page.
No Google Analytics measurement ID is configured in this version, so the consent script does not load Google's analytics tag. No advertising tags, third-party font files or embedded social feeds load on these pages. A product card without a cover makes no external image request. If a cover is supplied, your browser requests it from Amazon's image service, which receives ordinary connection details. The browser does not call a merchant catalog API.
Source citations and Amazon purchase links take you to another site when you follow them. Amazon links include a referral identifier that identifies this publication's affiliate route. The destination site's own privacy policy applies there.
Storage in your browser
The consent controls can save a choice named site-consent in local storage. The script can show an accept or decline control to visitors in the EU or UK. This stores the preference in that browser; it does not create a reader account.
The click script reads the campaign fields utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign and utm_content from a landing address. When present, it keeps those labels in the tab's session storage under click-utm. That storage lasts for the tab's session. Avoid placing private information in campaign labels or links you share.
Outbound offer measurements
The bundled click script listens for links marked as sponsored, including the Amazon buttons and linked product names. Following one sends the offer name, the current page path and stored campaign labels to this site's /api/click endpoint. The endpoint adds a country and time to the event. This measurement records a click; it does not establish that you bought a book.
Email you choose to send
A contact link opens your own email service. If you send a message to hello@horrorbooks.co, it contains your address and whatever you write or attach. It is used to handle your question or correction. Please omit children's names, private reading records and information about other people. The website does not subscribe correspondents to a mailing list.
Your choices
You can clear local and session storage in your browser. Where the consent control appears, you can decline. The consent code recognizes Global Privacy Control for its California analytics branch; there is currently no analytics ID to load. The site does not offer reader information for sale or targeted advertising.
For a question about information you sent by email, write to hello@horrorbooks.co. Describe the message and request without sending more private details than needed. Applicable rights depend on your location and circumstances; this page does not narrow them.
Changes
If the site's data flows change, this page needs a corresponding update. The date identifies this version. Our contact page explains how to send a correction.
